Blog Entry #2

In our book, Nicholas writes, "When persuasion regarding a particular issue is the goal, reason is a very valuable tool. Reason or logic carries a discussion from premises through well-reasoned arguments to a conclusion. However, often there is a no clear-cut solution to a real life problem, and logic alone cannot persuade."
What is your interpretation of this statement?

I think he is saying logic is a very important thing to use. Many things can be solved by simply thinking about them. When you are watching documentaries you need to be thinking about the issue they are talking about. If we can think like the person who made the documentary, it is much easier for them to persuade the audience. If your not thinking or interpreting what they are saying, nothing will ever come out of the documentary.

  1. I would have to agree here. You need to have some sense of logic to understand documentaries. Then, you can actually get useful information out of the documentary

  2. Logic is a very important to use but, I think it's pretty fair to say that there are people out there who don't have a very good sense of logic. You cannot persuade people based off of logic if their view of logic isn't the same as yours.
