In our book, Nicholas writes, "When persuasion regarding a particular issue is the goal, reason is a very valuable tool. Reason or logic carries a discussion from premises through well-reasoned arguments to a conclusion. However, often there is a no clear-cut solution to a real life problem, and logic alone cannot persuade."
What is your interpretation of this statement?
I think he is saying logic is a very important thing to use. Many things can be solved by simply thinking about them. When you are watching documentaries you need to be thinking about the issue they are talking about. If we can think like the person who made the documentary, it is much easier for them to persuade the audience. If your not thinking or interpreting what they are saying, nothing will ever come out of the documentary.

Introduction: Engaging Cinema
#1 After reading the introduction chapter to Engaging Cinema, what are your initial thoughts as to studying the subject of film?
I think that it will be very interesting. There are a lot of things involved with film that you may have noticed before, but never really taken time to think about it. For example, movies take you to places that may not even exist on this planet but you would they think they do because the experience is so real. Movies engulf you and make you believe whatever the are showing you.
Movies also give a sense of belonging. You could not be friends with someone or feel like you belong but if you both/all saw the same movie, you could all have a conversation about it which makes you feel like part of the group. People can also adopt fashions from movies and that can contribute to a sense of belonging if you are all dressing the same.
#2 Are movies a social danger or social benefit?
Movies are a social benefit but also a social danger to me.
They make you be apart of something more. They give you a sense of belonging to something. They also create many job openings for people because there are more jobs then just the director and the actor. Movies are also a great source of entertainment. There are many people who go just because they are simply board.
They can also be dangerous though because people can get addicted to them. If your binge watching movies or episodes of things, that is not healthy. Movies also are very expensive to produce. My last danger is that movies portray violence and they do not abide by the law. When people see that happening they may think that it is alright and they may try it in real life.

First Blog
-What are your thoughts about taking the class History Through Film? What do you hope to get out of this class and what strength do you bring to the class that will help us all progress forward as we learn?
-I think that this class will be very interesting. We don't have any other class in the school that is unique like this one. I hope to learn more about the History of how film started. It is really crazy to think about how much movies have evolved and what we can get out of them now. It is really weird that back in history they would draw pictures then go through them so that it looked like video. Movies also use to be only 10 minutes and now we have movies today that are about 4 hours long. I bring to the classroom knowledge that I already do have. I am also very easy to work with and I can understand other people's view points but also I will stand up for mine. I also do my homework.
